چکیده

A three-dimensional analytical model of the knee-joint is presented, taking into account the geometry of the joint surfaces as well as the geometry and material properties of the ligaments and capsule. The position of a large number of points on the joint surfaces is measured and the geometry of these surfaces is then approximated by polynomials in space. The ligaments and capsule are represented by a number of non-linear springs, with material properties selected from the literature. For a given three-dimensional loading (forces as well as moments) at various flexion-extension angles, the location of contact points, magnitude and direction of contact forces, magnitude of ligament elongation and ligament forces can be calculated. In the results presented in this paper special attention is given to the anterior-posterior laxity of a joint. A sensitivity study was undertaken lo evaluate the model response due to some of the model parameters and to gain a better understanding of the function of the elements in the model. It is concluded that the predictions of the model agree well with experiments described in the literature.

Dynamics of a Running Below-Knee Prosthesis Compared to Those of a Normal Subject

The normal human running has been simulated by two-dimensional biped model with 7 segments. Series of normal running experiments were performed and data of ground reaction forces measured by force plate was analyzed and was fitted to some Fourier series. The model is capable to simulate running for different ages and weights at different running speeds. A proportional derivative control algorit...

The effect of increasing running speed on three-dimensional changes of lower limb joint angles in open motor chain and swing phase

Objective Running is known as one of the most popular sports for which there is no time and space limit. Recently, due to lifestyle changes, the use of treadmills for walking and running has increased. However, the biomechanical differences in coordination between running on a treadmill at different speeds have not been sufficiently addressed. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect...

Comparisons of bracing and patellar taping on knee three-dimensional kinematics of women with patellofemoral pain syndrome in stance phase of running

Introduction: Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is one of the most common knee injuries that accounted for between 25-40% of all knee problems presenting to sports medicine centers. Two treatment methods of bracing and taping are recommended in these patients that their effectiveness are unclear. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of the two treatment methods on knee three-dim...

The Effect of Shoe Outsole Containing Nanoclay Particles on Knee Joint Power during the Stance Phase of Running

The popularity of running and consequently of running injuries has increased tends to develop shoe sole constructions aiming at preventing different injuries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of shoe outsole containing nanoclay particles on knee joint power during stance phase of running. Fourteen healthy male shod runners run 3 times at 3.5 m.s-1 under three shoe condi...

Mathematical Modeling of Column-Base Connections under Monotonic Loading

Some considerable damage to steel structures during the Hyogo-ken Nanbu Earthquake occurred. Among them, many exposed-type column bases failed in several consistent patterns, such as brittle base plate fracture, excessive bolt elongation, unexpected early bolt failure, and inferior construction work, etc. The lessons from these phenomena led to the need for improved understanding of column base...
